At Deering Management Group, an Accredited Management Organization (AMO®), we stress continuing formal and specialized education for our employees to keep abreast of changes in the industry. In many companies, competent property managers are hampered by a lack of adequate support staff. An office that has an inadequate support staff can cause delays in client statements and reports, and possibly, a lack of sufficient attention to problems at the property.

When a new property is acquired, the Principal Broker, the Broker, and the Property Accountant tour the project to introduce themselves to the tenants. We include the support staff in on-site visits and inspections to become familiar with the physical and administrative features of the project.

  President & Principal Broker - OR, Designated Broker - WA - Mariann M. Deering
Prior to forming Deering Management Group in 1992, Mariann was employed by companies such as CB Commercial Real Estate Group, Inc., Prendergast and Associates, Cushman and Wakefield and First Interstate Bank.

Mariann not only has extensive experience in the asset management aspects of investment real estate, but also handles the leasing functions and assists in the sale of a property should that be the intent of the owner. As part of her responsibilities, she supervises and administers all tenant improvements, special renovations and any major improvements the property might require. She enhances each owner's investment while providing constant attention to their tenants' needs based on honesty, integrity and a sincere dedication to each project.

Mariann is active with current legislation affecting the real estate community and is involved with local real estate organizations. She has been a BOMA (Building Owners and Managers Association) member for 26 years and is a past Director of the Portland BOMA Board. She is a member of IREM (Institute of Real Estate Management) and ICSC (International Council of Shopping Centers). She is a member of CAB (Commercial Association of Brokers) and is currently on the Board in Portland. Mariann has also been involved with the local environmental agencies such as the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to ensure her properties comply with all local and Federal regulations.
 
  Vice President, Accounting - Joni Mariman, RPA
Joni Mariman has headed Deering Management Group’s Accounting Department since 1994. She is responsible for the supervision of other accounting personnel and the initial setup and implementation of each client’s accounting needs, as well as new software implementation and upgrades.

Joni is responsible for preparing the monthly financial statements, tracking all tenant invoicing and receipts, supervising the payment of all bills in a timely manner, and keeping track of common area maintenance and other expenses for future reconciliation. She is responsible for the bulk of the monthly reporting requirements for the asset. She also completes all year-end reporting requirements, such as preparing 1099s or adjustments prepared by the client’s CPA. Further, Joni is responsible for ensuring compliance with all State client trust account regulations.

Prior to joining Deering Management Group, Joni was employed for eight years by Cornell Oaks Associates/Western Realty Advisors, a Portland area property/construction management firm. She held administrative and property management positions until the firm disbanded in 1994.

Joni has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration/Finance from Oregon State University.
 
  Broker - Wendie C. Billings, CPM, RPA
Wendie Billings has over 20 years of commercial property and construction management experience with companies such as Colliers International, RREEF, Unico Properties and Benaroya Capital Company. She has managed a diverse portfolio including historical, Class A high rise, industrial and retail centers, and has an extensive background in environmental issues and management thereof. Wendie has earned her Real Property Administrator (RPA) and Certified Property Manager (CPM) designations, and is licensed in both Oregon and Washington. She has been with Deering Management Group since 2004 and is the Executive CPM for the organization.
 
  Broker - James Knepler, FMA, RPA
James Knepler has close to 30 years of commercial property management experience with organizations such as the General Services Administration and the U.S. Marine Corps.  He has managed diverse portfolios of office, medical and industrial properties.  Jim is a certified Real Property Administrator (RPA), Facilities Management Administrator (FMA), a licensed Real Estate Salesman in California, and a Broker in Oregon. Jim has been with Deering Management Group since 2004.
 
  Broker - Carole Woodruff
Carole Woodruff has been with Deering Management Group since 2009. She currently oversees a diverse portfolio of office, retail and medical facilities. Her experience includes management, development and construction supervision. She is a licensed broker in Oregon and working toward her Washington designation.

Prior to joining Deering Management Group, she worked with Doug Bean and Associates on properties owned by a Glendale, California real estate development company. Carole also had the opportunity to work with Cushman and Wakefield’s management team overseeing the Brewery Blocks, which consisted of four buildings containing 110,000 square feet of retail and 350,000 square feet of office space. Prior to entering the real estate field, Carole worked for the Oregon State Bar for approximately 15 years.

Carole is involved in the local BOMA and IREM organizations.
 
  Broker - Josh Haynes
Josh Haynes manages a diverse portfolio including several office properties in the Pearl District, medical, industrial and flex properties throughout the expanded Portland area. He has recently taken over several parking assets as a separate revenue stream.

Besides being a licensed Broker, Josh received his LEED Green Associate certification from the United States Green Building Council, Josh has a passion for green building and sustainable practices. He is also involved with the Pearl District community, volunteering with the “Graffiti Busters” and helping set up the annual neighborhood block party.

Josh has been with Deering Management Group since 2006.
 
  Broker - Katie Owens
Katie Owens assists the Principal Broker/President with the oversight of her portfolio, general administration and special projects. She also handles tenant, vendor and routine maintenance calls and interfaces with the tenants and owners.

Katie has worked to increase her skill level and take on more responsibilities for the company. She now manages her own portfolio including properties in both Salem and Portland. Katie has been with Deering since 2009.
 
  Broker / Marketing - Amy Einstein
Amy Einstein provides backup for all of the departments within the organization. She comes with a background in marketing. She currently assists Brokers with the oversight of their building portfolios, including tenant and vendor interactions and other special projects. She is also working with managers to prepare the annual operating expense reconciliations and budgets.

Amy has been with Deering Management Group since 2010.
 
  Administrative Assistant/Maintenance Supervisor - Alisa Smith
Alisa Smith coordinates all maintenance requests from tenants, schedules contractors, and follows the project to its completion. She is responsible for informing the tenants of future action and ensuring the repair is completed on time and to the tenant's satisfaction. Alisa is involved with all of the managers in the day-to-day operation of each property. She has been part of the Deering Management Group team since 2002.
 
  Administrative Assistant/Special Projects - Lindsay Ronfeld
Lindsay Ronfeld has been with Deering Management Group since 1999. She is an experienced administrator and is responsible for maintaining accurate, detailed records on each property.

Lindsay works closely with the managers to create the annual operating budgets for the properties. She is involved in the entire budgeting process and is instrumental in verifying the accuracy of each budget.

Lindsay also works with the managers to prepare the annual operating expense reconciliations for the properties. This involves compiling the operating expenses and completing the reconciliations in compliance with the tenants’ leases. She also handles tenants’ requests for supporting documentation, tenant audits, and any concerns or questions they may have regarding the reconciliations.
 
  Broker’s Assistant - Katlin Hoke
Katlin Hoke assists one manager with his extensive portfolio, including tenant and vendor interaction, as well as maintenance and property tasks. She coordinates the operations of the Parking Division and handles special projects for clients. She has been with Deering Management Group since 2013.
 
  Broker - Teresa Kolb
Teresa assists property managers with their portfolios, including tenant and vendor interaction, as well as maintenance and property tasks.

Teresa comes to Deering Management Group with a detailed background in real estate. She was a Licensed Realtor® from 2004 to 2012 with Prudential NW Properties. She also held several positions with Fred Meyer, including a position in their Property Management Department as an Administrative Assistant in Leasing. Teresa also has worked for several years with special needs children with Autism.

Teresa has been with Deering Management Group since 2013.
 
  Executive Assistant/Insurance Specialist - Vicki Close
Vicki comes to us with a background in customer service and account management. For Deering Management Group, she interfaces with the tenants and owners on a daily basis. She assists the real estate managers with general administration. She works with both vendors and tenants to ensure we have correct up-to-date insurance certificates for all our properties and clients and is responsible for maintaining the insurance certificate.

Vicki has been with Deering Management Group since 2013.
 
  Broker’s Assistant - Judy Robinson
Judy assists the President and Principal Broker with the oversight of her portfolio, general administration and special projects. She also handles tenant, vendor and routine maintenance calls and interfaces with the tenants and owners. She comes to Deering Management Group with an extensive background in finance and administrative support.
 
  Property Accountant - Annette Hufford
Annette Hufford aids Joni Mariman in all aspects of her work and manages the Accounting Department in Joni's absence. Her responsibilities include processing all accounts payable/receivable, tenant invoicing and monthly financial reporting. Annette's efficiency and organizational skills have made her an integral part of the Deering Management Group since 2002.
 
  Property Accountant - Selma Goetz
Selma Goetz has been with Deering Management Group since 2007. She aids the Vice President of Accounting in all aspects of her work and manages the Accounting Department in her absence. Her responsibilities include processing all accounts payable/receivable, tenant invoicing, bank reconciliations and monthly financial reporting. Selma’s efficiency and organizational skills make her an integral part of our team. She has over 20 years of accounting experience.

Prior to her employment at Deering Management Group, Selma was the Accounts Receivable Coordinator for Albertina Kerr Centers, Office Manager for Precision Industrial Coatings and Accounting Assistant for TIC – The Industrial Company.
 
  Accounting - Lisa McGowan
Lisa Basta assists the Vice President of Accounting and Property Accountants with daily activities. She prepares daily deposits, maintains accounting records and provides general accounting and office support. She has been with the Deering Management Group since 2008.
 
  Maintenance Technician - Ryan Crouley
Ryan Crowley has over 2 years of real estate maintenance experience. He comes to us with background in the customer service industry, and his personal concern with all of our projects has added to the depth of our services. Ryan has been with Deering for over 3 years.
 
  Maintenance Technician - Greg Bullard
Greg has several years experience in the construction and maintenance industry. He recently moved to the Portland area. Greg is very thorough in accomplishing property maintenance tasks with concern for all the areas of each project, no matter how small.
 
  Maintenance Technician - Dan Sylvester
Dan is new to our team but has many years of experience working as a self-employed property manager/maintenance technician for local landlords and real estate companies. He also has experience working on maintenance projects on a college campus.
